Dr. Montoya attended the Alumni Association Ring Ceremony on Wednesday, April 29 for an evening of celebration. It is always heartwarming to hear the stories of our graduates and the obstacles they overcame to earn their degrees.

It was a pleasure to welcome the Ellucian team to our campus on Thursday, April 30 for a site visit. We look forward to enhancing the usage of our student data system and we thank the Ellucian team for their participation.

Attended the Ninth Annual Clara Belle Williams Dinner on Thursday, April 30 to celebrate student leadership and academic accomplishments.

Dacia Sedillo, Interim Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, met with leadership from Air Force and Army ROTC to finalize the details for 20 new scholarships to be awarded, annually, beginning with the 2015/16 academic year. The purpose of these scholarships is to support recruitment and retention within the ROTC programs and NMSU.

University Admissions hosted over 40 high school counselors from Albuquerque at a luncheon for their dedication, support, and willingness to promote NMSU to their students.

University Admissions Advisors hosted a recruitment workshop as part of the Alumni International Board of Directors meeting.

Student Engagement, Dr. Terry Cook

Student Engagement launched a professional development program for staff, “Discovering the Leader Within You”, on Friday, May 1. Kevin Andrew, Cooperative Education and Internship Coordinator at Career Services, developed the program as part of his graduate internship with the Educational Leadership and Administration Program. Workshops are planned for 2015-16 and an internal website was developed to create a forum to enhance staff communication on leadership in higher education topics.

The Aggie Welcome and Orientation hosted 310 students and 300 parents and family members at the Friday, April 24 and Saturday April 25 programs. Out of state students traveled from Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Texas, and Washington. President Carruthers and Dr. Bernadette Montoya helped welcome families and students to NMSU at the event.

MVP Director, Jacobo Varela, presented cords to graduating seniors and the Student Veteran Organization President presented graduation sashes to students who participated in activities this year.

Seventy-three graduating military and veteran students were honored at the Cord Ceremony on May 1 at the Yates Auditorium in Domenici Hall. Dr. Joseph Berning, Associate Professor in the department of Kinesiology and Dance and former United States Marine serving in the first Gulf War, gave an inspirational graduation address to students and their families.

Diversity Programs

Chicano Programs hosted a group of about 30 students for the second year from Phoenix Collegiate Academy in Phoenix, Arizona. The students visited various departments across campus participating in workshops and taking a campus tour. They visited the slime lab, the Arthropod Museum, KRWG TV studios, the Creative Media Institute Theater and other departments..
