On Thursday, January 8, met with the Academic Advising Council. Members of the Council made solid recommendations on tools they would like to have to help support retention of our students.

The SAEM Advisory Board breakfast meeting was held on Friday, January 9. Several items were discussed including ways to ensure the larger campus community is fully aware of services provided through Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. The Advisory Board is made up of individuals throughout the division who were selected by the SAEM Executive Leadership Team.

The Commencement Team met with Dr. Montoya on Friday, January 9 to review proposals for adjustments that are being considered for the Spring 2015 Commencement ceremony.

outdoorrecwinterNMSU Outdoor Recreation took 10 students to Breckenridge, Colorado on December 12-15, 2014 for two days of skiing and snowboarding at Breckenridge Ski Resort. The trip was lead by an Outdoor Leadership Program facilitator. Students enjoyed the slopes, explored the town of Breckenridge, and were able to meet Olympic athletes competing at the 2014 Dew Tour being held at the resort.

NMSU Rec Sports sent 18 students to compete in the NIRSA National Flag Football Tournament January 1-5, 2015 in Pensacola, Florida.  Our two teams, Men’s and Co-Rec earned a spot in the National Tournament by winning their respective divisions at the Regional competition held in Tempe, Arizona in November. The Men’s team advanced to the third round where they lost to eventual tournament winners, Valdosta State University. Our Co-Rec team advanced all the way to the final four and also lost to the tournament winner, Valdosta State.

Our Intramural Rec Coordinator, Reid Jackson, was inducted into the NIRSA National Flag Football Tournament Hall of Fame for his accomplishments within the field of Intramurals. Lindsey Englehart, a member of the NMSU Co-Rec team and a student employee of Rec Sports, earned “NIRSA Flag Football All American” for her accomplishments in NIRSA Flag Football.
