NMASAP: New Mexico Association of Student Affairs Professionals Conference

Staff and students from Students Affairs and Enrollment Management attended the November 10 and 11 conference of the NMASAP last week in Albuquerque at UNM. Said Mandy Collar, a student representing the Student Success Centers after the first day of the conference: “I have been learning a lot, had the opportunity to listen to truly talented speakers, network, and so much more. I appreciate this opportunity you have provided for me.” Students Cassandra Alba and Joshua Vanderhoof also attended the conference.

The first day was highlighted by an award presentation to State Senator Michael Sanchez, in appreciation for his tireless support of the New Mexico Lottery Success Scholarship. Additional opening talks were given by Dr. Fidel Trujillo, Dean of Students from New Mexico Highlands University, and Dr. Kathie Winograd, President of Central New Mexico Community College. Ann Rhoades, the lunch speaker on Thursday, gave a well-received talk on values-driven leadership.

Technical sessions were organized along three tracks — one for four-year institutions, two-year institutions, and students. Content of these sessions ranged from cyber-bullying to group dynamics to assessment in student affairs organizations.
